a big table...

My son Viktor, (23) is moving together with his girlfriend to
an apartment in the center of our town. The apartment has three
floors and very high ceiling, it's so cool for young people to live
in houses like this. He asked me if I could help him make
them a dining table, and we decided to make a big table,
a bench to sit on, a mirror and a console table!!!

Here you can see some of the things we are enjoying making together...

The 3m long table is made from pine wood.

Viktor working hard...

Me adding some of my touches to it ;)

Working on the mirror frame.

It's also quiet big.

I started by treating the the table top with lye.
It's a solution that will take the yellow tone
in the pine wood away. Then I colored it in
two layers, first I used dark grey oil, and then
I gave it one layer of white oil.

As a final touch one layer of white wax, and
then some heavy "buffing" which my dear
husband is so happy to do for me.
And the table is ready for use.

To paint the mirror frame, we used grey color called
"san saccaria"
It's from our lime paint production.

The table frame is also painted with the same color.

Now we only have to move the table to the apartment!!
I do hope they will like it, and most importantly use it a lot... ;)

Not ready...

I'm not ready for the summer to be over,
it's as simple as that!! I'm still thinking pink flowers,
summer dresses, having a drink with friends in the garden,
and all the nice things we do when it is summer.
But summers are short here in Iceland, and
it looks like this one is already over.
I miss you summer!!!

Come back if you can......

a hint of color...

Having a favorite color is nice, and sometimes using
just a hint of it in your home or decorations can be
enough to make your place more personal and beautiful.

These blue crystals are very beautiful, so
if you like this color, then this would be
just a perfect choice for your home.

Sometimes it's easier to use your favorite
color for smaller items like these.

Having a soft blue sofa like this
I think is pretty cool.

These colors work so well here.

I think that "less is more" is a good thing to have in mind
when using ones favorite color for the home.

more inspiring objects...

I'm getting a lot of inspiration for my hand painted
textiles from these beautiful objects. In fact
I can't wait to get started on my next project!

I love these soft, muted colors,
and the old and used look is so attractive.

I find these beautiful objects to be very inspiring.
Just looking at the colors that are used and how
the items are decorated is so nice.

It's easy to get ideas for ones work
just looking at these beautiful objects.
Merci!

mirror...

I like using mirrors as decorations in my home.
A mirror can really change a room, whether it is big or small,
old or new. Some mirrors I have, I've made myself, but some I buy.
I love when the glass is old and damaged and you can't see your
image in it anymore, but they are so hard to find.
I've tried different paint techniques to achieve this
old and used look!

This is a mirror I made several years ago.
I decorated the frame using silver leaf and then
I made the glass look old and damaged.

Here is another I made last year using old
paint techniques and ornaments to decorate it.

This one I love, I bought it from an antique dealer
in Belgium 10 years ago. The frame is more then 100 years
old, and it used to hang in an hotel in paris.
Love these bird cases with mirrors inside
and painted birds they are just so beautiful.

A beautiful blue one.

A mix of old mirror and mercury glass.

A grand mirror in dark color goes well
with this white daybed.
